Why is VPN required outside NL

I have two services one used in Portugal and the other I use in NL and while travelling. A few years ago I could use the service any where in EU without a problem. Now it will not work without a vpn connected to NL.
I assume it’s something world is doing as I have another iptv provider at that works without a vpn.
Can anyone shed some light on this?

Hello, without knowing what service you are referring too, this is hard to say. But if you are unable to connect with a provider in another country, it’s very likely the ISP is blocking connections to that specific provider/serverprovider/IP-address range. e.g. is blocking the IPTV services.
